I built this for a close friend of mine. I found this bike sitting in the back room of a bicycle shop where it had sitting for a few months. I knew the man that ran the shop so for 75 bucks I took it home and built it as the new owner wished.

Hercules Bicycle Serial Numbers. 9/26/2019 I can't tell from the pics if it's a pre-Raleigh(1960) or not but $150 seems awfully high. Don't worry; the experts should be here shortly. In the meantime, check out the rear hub. There should be a date stamped on it. I believe the older ones had it right below the name or maybe to the left. How about another UK bike. This is a nondescript Hercules 10-Speed sent in by Barry M. Year unknown, probably late 60's. Serial number 279990 Hercules (Nottingham) I bought this for $9 years ago at a thrift store. All there except. If you can find the serial number, you can find out what year the engine was manufactured and what model it is by searching a Hercules Engine Model catalog. Take inventory of the specifications. If there are no identifying numbers or letters left on the engine, you are going to have to identify the Hercules using the engine's specs. Note that the serial number information below is fragmentary and incomplete, and many bikes have proven to be much newer than the serial numbers would suggest. It appears that Raleigh recycled many of the older serial numbers in later years, so there are lots of bikes from the 60s and 70s that have serial numbers that would suggest much greater.
